Fifteen teens in the Oceanside Library Players performed “Beauty is a Beast,” to an audience of nearly 80 people on Aug. 2.

The play, according to Barbara Mickowski, the young-adult librarian, is about a princess named Beauty, whose fairy godmother gives her eternal beauty. However, when Beauty abuses the gift, the fairy takes it away and makes her a peasant for a day. The other peasants make her feel better and emphasize the dignity of all people.

The actors, aged 12-15, spent two nights each week in July preparing for the performance.

Erin Sheehan, a college graduate with a theater major, directed the play.
