Bikers raise nearly $10K for breast cancer research for Oceanside resident's charity

On a sun soaked late summer Saturday afternoon, the sound of nearly 80 bikers humming by was evident as the Maurer Foundation hosted its sixth annual motorcycle ride in support of breast health education programs on Sept. 14.

“We were able to raise almost $10,000 for our breast health education programs thanks to the generosity of our event sponsor, Champion Elevator, and our other sponsors,” said Susan Samaroo, an Oceanside resident and the executive director of the foundation.

The bikers revved their engines at the Oak Beach Inn, led by the motorcycle club the Chosen Souls, and then took a scenic trip to The Maples in Manorville. “My mom had breast cancer so I’m glad to be able to ride for a cause that is near and dear to me,” said Marianne Robotsis as she prepared for the trek. “Now that I know about this foundation, I will do this run every year.”

After the ride, attendees partook in a barbecue, sang and danced along to live music and entered raffles at The Maples. The money raised from the event will provide breast health education programs to high schools, colleges and community groups across Long Island and New York City.

In addition to Champion Elevator, the main sponsors for the event included Bleiberg Plumbing Supplies, BMB Solutions, the Crest Hollow Country Club, Electrical Contracting Solutions Corp., the Raphael Goldberg Nikpour Cohen & Sullivan law firm, Michelman Steel, and the Sarisky Triplets.
