The holiday spirit was in full effect on Sunday as community members, the Village of Island Park board of trustees and member of American Legion Post 1029 attended the village’s second annual Toys for Tots drive at the village square.
“It was a great honor for the board of trustees and I to partner with Island Park American Legion Post 1029 for our second annual Toys for Tots toy drive,” Mayor Michael McGinty said. “It was a tremendous success and I thank everyone for coming out and so generously participating.”
The event included gifts for children, an appearance from Santa Claus and food and treats. Attendees wore masks and adhered to social distancing guidelines while also participating in holiday cheer. McGinty thanked members of the Island Park Fire Department for their assistance working as Santa’s little helpers, and said he was happy to bring some holiday magic to the village.
“We all know the challenges this year has brought to so many families,” McGinty said, “and we wanted to make sure many children will have smiles on their faces from Santa’s toy shop, all the way from the North Pole, down to Island Park.”
