In the name of loyalty to Rockville Centre and its surrounding community, Mildred Murphy has opened a new, more intimate version of the former Garden Gate.

The shop is now located near the train station, doors away from George Martin, and across the street from Front Street Bakery. Murphy worked at the original Garden Gate for 21 years, and was co-owner for the last 10.

Handmade wreathes, floral arrangements, small pieces of furniture, and home accessories fill this charming store. Some of what seem to be part of a display — since they are garnished with flowers and bric-à-brac — are actually for sale, like an eight-foot hutch, and a working (electric) fireplace.

An enormous workshop and stockroom allows for huge, ever-changing inventory. Right now, they are gearing up for the holidays, so expect to see bling and glitter abound.

The hands behind the business are Patty, Louise, Regina, Mildred’s husband, Jerry, and their son, Ryan. Regina and Mildred make all the floral arrangements and wreathes, which are totally comprised of top quality silk flowers of all kinds.

While they offer ready-made arrangements, customized floral pieces are extremely popular. Costumers can choose the flowers. Some bring in fabric to match their décor.

The turn-around time for an order is usually about a week. If an heirloom or treasured piece (like a vase or bowl) is to be a part of it, they will try to complete the job even faster. Wedding wreathes are available for rental for the weekend.

Interior design is yet another facet of Garden Gate Revisited, and Mildred Murphy facilitates those services. For a very nominal fee, she offers a one-hour consultation. She will come to one’s home and make suggestions for redesign or replacing items like furniture, drapes, carpeting, etc.

If accessories are needed, such as lamps, mirrors, artwork, or small chairs or tables, she can suggest items from the store. A list will be made of what to look for. And if she doesn’t sell an item she advises, she can recommend the best place to find it.
Business hours for Garden Gate Revisited are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, 10 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. As the holidays get closer, they plan to open earlier for the season.
