Helping raise money for Cory Cares

Young Cory Nichols is at it again, raising money to feed the hungry. The teenager says he had no idea there were hungry people on Long Island, until he two years ago he found out about the Oceanside Food Pantry. He was told the pantry feeds 179 families every month, so Nichols sprang into action.

For his Bar Mitzvah project he decided to give back to the community; his goal was to raise $1200 to stock the pantry shelves, he reached that goal, but the money kept coming in.

Three years later he has his own non-profit organization, C the Difference, Cory Cares. Over this past summer he has delivered over 2,000 pounds of food to five Long Island pantries.

A few years ago about six professional women from the south shore were talking about helping local charities, so they formed a Woman For Woman group. As word spread and more people joined their Wednesday morning breakfast meetings they heard about various organization that were in need of help, like Bethany House, and decided to hold fundraisers. Spokesperson for Woman for Woman, Karen Alterson, said it was at one of those meetings they were introduced to Cory Cares and organized this basket raffle for his charity.

Oceanside’s Salon Montaage heard about Cory and wanted to help, so they, along with Woman For Woman, held a basket raffle on Sept. 11, and raised $835.
