Salute To Veterans Spectacular
Dean Karahalis and the Concert Pops Orchestra headline Nassau County’s annual Salute To Veterans night at Eisenhower Park. Guest vocalists Deana Verone and Jim Sergi join Karahalis and his orchestra for an evening of light classics and popular favorites. The program begins with a ceremony honoring veterans, dedicated this year to the men and women of the 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines. The USO Liberty Bells, a 21-member troupe comprised of dynamic Broadway and off-Broadway performers, also appear.

Family Fun

Gone Fishing
Take the kids on a fresh water fishing expedition at I FISH NY’s annual family fishing clinic at Rockville Centre’s Hempstead Lake State Park. The event will start with education stations including fish identification, regulations and angler ethics, and aquatic ecology. Open family fishing follows. For those beginning anglers, free loaner fishing rods and bait are available for use at the clinic. The New York State fishing license requirement for those 16 and older has been suspended for this event, so families can enjoy fishing together.

Outdoor Delights

Summer Birds
Surround yourself with the vibrant colors – and birds – of the season on a guided tour at Muttontown Preserve. This walk through some of the preserve’s 550 acres explores thickets, small meadows and wetlands as a guide describes the variety of birds that reside in the preserve. Also look for a variety of other creatures that make their home there, including mammals and reptiles.
