Malverne woman arrested and charged with stealing from Oceanside store

A Malverne woman was arrested on Saturday, April 3, for stealing from and fraudulently returning items to the Oceanside store at which she worked, Nassau County police said. Police said Martha Diaz, 38, made the fraudulent transactions between Sept. 11 and April 1 at Jandi's Organic Market, located on Long Beach Road, where she had worked for the last seven months. She returned non-existing items and took their cash value, according to police.

She was also observed placing numerous items into black garbage bags and leaving the store without paying for them, police added.

Diaz was charged with grand larceny, forgery, falsifying business records and petit larceny. She was arraigned on Sunday, April 4, at First District Court in Hempstead, and her bail was set at $15,000 bond or $7,500 cash. Diaz was scheduled to appear back in court on Wednesday, April 7.
