A Westbury man was arrested on July 4 after an early morning assault at a party in Oceanside.

According to police, John McKenna, 20, of Westbury, became involved in a fight with two men at a party on Harold Street in Oceanside. Police say McKenna started fighting one man and punched him in the face. When another man attempted to break up the fight, McKenna stabbed him once in the head and once in the leg with a pocket knife, said police.

Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, none of which are considered life-threatening. Police say that McKenna also stabbed himself in the abdomen to make it appear that he was assaulted by one of the victims. McKenna was also transported to the hospital.

He was charged with assault and possession of a dangerous weapon. Police say McKenna will be arraigned as soon as it is practical.
