The Institute for Interfaith Dialogue and the Institute for Irish Studies at Molloy College will host "Our Common Heritage," a collaborative presentation on Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. in the Hays Theatre of the Wilbur Arts Center on the Rockville Centre campus as Carl Nelkin, a native of Dublin, blends his dual musical heritage by merging Irish and Jewish culture through music.
People of Irish and Jewish descent each have a history of persecution and thus a mutual sense of trying to establish their roles in the world.Nelkin will present music on appropriate and representative instruments combining both traditions.
An aviation lawyer during the day and a musician by night, Nelkin is inspired by the Irish tenor John McCormick and Toronto Cantor Louis Danto. He will be accompanied by pianist Steven Tice from the Malverne School of Music.
