Nassau Amateur Radio Club to connect Scouts

On Oct. 18, the Nassau Amateur Radio Club will be open for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to talk to other scouts and scout leaders around the world. The event is the Jamboree On The Air an annual event jointly run between Amateur Radio Operators and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts world wide according to Robert Schoenfeld, WA2AQQ, a member of the Nassau Amateur Club and a scout and scout leader of over 60 years and an Amateur Radio Operator of over 50 years.

The Nassau Amateur Radio Club has held this event for several years at its meeting room in the Special Activities Building at the Stewart Avenue entrance to Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. All attendees will be able to talk on the air. In addition there will be demonstrations of using amateur radio connected to computers and the internet. Amateur radio has always been on the cutting edge of technology and has cooperated with the scouting movement almost from the start of it.
