Oceanside Fire Department responds to smoke at post office

At about 10 a.m. on June 20, the Nassau County Police Department was called to the Oceanside Post Office, at 80 Atlantic Avenue, to respond to a call of a car hitting a parked postal vehicle. While on the scene, the Officer Regan smelled a harsh burning odor emanating from the parking lot at the post office. When he investigated, he found the smoke coming from a postal freighter truck.

Officers Regan and Cirino grabbed fire extinguishers to put out the flames. The Oceanside Fire Department was called to put more water on the truck’s engine in case there were any small flames still inside. No one was injured, and there were no delays to service.

OFD members are pictured here dousing the engine.
