Oceanside marked the 14th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a ceremony on the Schoolhouse Green. About 300 people attended, ranging from senior citizens and veterans to children who were born years after the tragedy.

Dean Klebonas of Oceanside High School started the ceremony by singing the National Anthem. The Oceanside Fire Department presented the colors, and Rev. Kally Elliot, Rabbi Mark Greenspan, Rev. Stephen Phillips read prayers and poems asking for peace and understanding after the tragedy.

The Oceanside High School Marching Band played “America the Beautiful,” and students from the School 9E Boardman Elementary school Chorus sang “A Song of Peace” by Teresa Jennings.

After a moment of silence, the names of the men and women from Oceanside who perished in the attacks were read out loud — 19 total. The Port Authority First Floor Responders and the World Trade Center Port Authority Police and Fire Department were also acknowledged. Fr. Nicholas Lombardi closed the ceremony with a benediction.
