The Oceanside Association of Girl Scouts hosted its annual World Thinking Day. This one-day, celebrated since 1926 is a day of international friendship, with this year’s theme “connect”.

On this day Scouts speak out about issues facing girls and women around the world, and work on fundraising for the nearly 10 million Girl Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide.

This year 100 Girl Scouts from Oceanside grades Kindergarten through eighth took part with the older girls helping the younger ones earn their World Thinking Day badge.

The girls had the opportunity to “visit” three countries at three stations where they learned about the country, and tried some of their foods. In Australia they sampled barbecue chicken, in Italy they had pizza and in Ireland they sampled soda bread.

The girls gathered for connect presentation that included; connect with me that focused on breathing meditation and yoga, connect with friends, which included a flame (not real candles) ceremony, and connect with the world which included a talk by Long Beach resident Dave Yolinsky about his travels around the world as a U.S. Serviceman and in the Peace Corps.
