Celebrating their 60th anniversary at a dinner on April 23, the Oceanside Kiwanettes honored Board of Education Trustee Sandie Schoell with the Women of Distinction award. A longtime Oceanside resident, Schoell is a former president of the school board and a former president of the Kiwanettes.

The club thanked the community for its support and its gifts and donations throughout the years, which have allowed its members to help senior citizens; adopt families at Christmastime; contribute to the Firemen’s Retirement Home and the Firemen’s Burn Center; fund scholarships to the State University of New York Empire State College; offer scholarships to female graduating students at Oceanside High School; and support the Interfaith Nutrition Network, South Nassau Communities Hospital, the Stephanie Joyce Kahn Foundation and other charitable causes.

The elected officials who attended included State Assemblymen Todd Kaminsky and Brian Curran, and Hempstead Town Councilman Anthony Santino.
