Lance Corporal Gregory T. Buckley, Jr. was memorialized on August 10 by family, friends and elected officials when an Oceanside intersection was named in honor of the local resident who died in Afghanistan on August 10, 2012.

The intersection of Greentree Drive and Dot Court was named in honor of the Oceanside resident, who lived on Greentree Drive, just feet from the park where he played basketball when he was young, prior to becoming a standout basketball star at Oceanside High School.

“The men and women of the United States military are making great sacrifices on a daily basis to ensure that all of us can live in peace and freedom,” said Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray. “Gregory Buckley made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and should be remembered as a hero.”

Also memorializing the fallen Marine were his mother, Marina Buckley, his father, Gregory Buckley, Sr., and his two brothers, Justin, 17 and Shane, 18.
