The great Oceanside Girl Scouts bake off

The Oceanside Girl Scouts completed their bake off on March 25 at Oceanside High School, which ended in a scrumptious victory for three crafty girls.

The Association Bake Off, a baking competition between troop members, was the finale after each troop held their own bake off in the weeks prior. The finalists ranged from 5 to 6-year-old Daisies to 13-year-old Cadettes. They were judged on their creativity, the texture and taste of the cake and how it looked, and each girl made their entry from scratch and by themselves. The event was open to friends and family.

“The girls took the initiative to choose and craft their recipes in an imaginative way, which helped them build their confidence to complete a task on their own from start to finish,” co-chair Michelle Geluso told the Herald. “Plus, it was a fun way for them to show off their baking and decorating skills. The judges had a great time, too, describing it as the most delicious job in the world.”

The judges, Richard Vitale and Linda Bosco, decided the winners were: Eliana de la Teja in third place, Lilly Miller in second, and first place went to Skylar Parker.
