A bus carrying seven students to the Mill Neck School for the Deaf crashed into a tree at around 8:20 a.m. on Thursday morning after the bus hit an icy patch on Frost Mill Road. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and, after confirming the students had no serious injuries they were sent to Glen Cove Hospital for further evaluation.

Corporal Thomas Gould, a spokesperson for the Brookville Police Department, said that the police department and fire departments did an initial check and determined that none of the students were in danger. He added that the department was monitoring the situation on the road, and everyone was glad that no one was seriously harmed.

"The roadway conditions will be monitored all day going forward," Gould said. "Thankfully all of the injuries were very minor."

Lauren Morales, database and project specialist for the school, confirmed that all of the students were discharged from the hospital without any injuries. Morales added that the school had been in communication with the hospital as well as parents and first responders, and that the students were released home for the day.

"We're very thankful for our first responders and also the CEO of Northwell Health who reached out to us to make sure that they had access to communication when they were brought into the ER," Morales said. "The first emergency departments were unimaginably fast to respond. They were there within moments of the accident."

Peter Quick, mayor of Brookville, said that the village has been in contact with Nassau County since the incident, as Frost Mill is a county road. The road has been re-salted and a vacuum truck has been sent there to clear out the drains under the road, in the hope that other ice patches won't be able to develop.

"We've already been in touch with the county," Quick continued. "We urge people to drive within the speed limit and beware of winter conditions.
