After an extensive search, Dr. Michelle Piskulich was selected to the position of provost and vice president of academic affairs at Molloy College and will begin her appointment on Aug. 23. Piskulich was previously a senior associate provost at Oakland University, and the college’s search committee was assisted by the Storbeck Search firm, in selecting her out of nearly 100 applicants.

Rockville Centre resident LaTonja Lee is the first Black female athletic trainer at Molloy College, but being a trailblazer isn’t enough for her. She said her goal is to help youth in underserved areas by teaching them what it’s like to be an athletic trainer and educating them about healthy living.

Despite restrictions that remain in place as the number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise, students at Molloy College in Rockville Centre are striving for some normalcy in their campus life. On Sunday and Monday, nearly 200 students returned to school and moved into its three residence halls for the spring semester — about 35 more students than lived on campus last fall. To ensure social distancing, they moved in by scheduled appointment, avoiding crowded elevators and hallways as they hauled in suitcases and supplies.

For more than 20 years, Molloy College has hosted a gala for alumni and community that provided top-notch performances and brought people together, while raising hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship funding. This year, despite an ongoing pandemic, the upcoming gala on Nov. 28 promises to be just as spectacular, although it has shifted to a virtual format.

On June 15, Dr. James Lentini began his tenure as the seventh president of Molloy College following the retirement of Dr. Drew Bogner, who held the position for the past 20 years. Lentini, 62, and his family — wife Dana, sons Luke and Noah and daughter Evalina — relocated to Rockville Centre from Rochester, Michigan, where he served as senior vice president and Provost at Oakland University from 2013 to 2020. The Herald recently spoke with Lentini about his thoughts on the new job and his vision for the future.
