Baldwin man John Robinson, 23, was sentenced on Feb. 23 to 17 years to life in prison for an October 2015 burglary in Rockville Centre.

It occurred on Sherman Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Robinson was reportedly dropped off by co-defendents Jashira Rodriguez and Fabrice Lafleur who waited outside in a vehicle.

Robinson proceeded to push in an air-conditioning unit and entered the house through a basement window. He was spotted by video surveillance at around 12:30 p.m. leaving the home with several bags stuffed with the homeowner’s items.

A neighbor saw Robinson, another person called 911 and a Rockville Centre police officer responded to the reports of a suspicious vehicle occupied by two people. The officer then chased after Robinson as he dropped the stolen items and escaped in the vehicle. He was arrested the next day by Nassau County police.

Robinson’s trial lasted six days and the jury deliberated for about three. Rodriguez and Lafleur pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted burglary.

"This persistent offender broke into and ransacked a home in broad daylight and then ran from the police and a brave neighbor when they tried to stop him," said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas in a press release. "Thanks to good detective work and our prosecutors, John Robinson will now spend a lengthy time in prison."
