Brush fire spreads to office

The Rockville Centre Fire Department responded to a fire at an office building at 55 Maple Ave. at about 2:30 p.m. on May 12.

The fire started when a worker at the building flicked a cigarette butt, which landed in a bush adjacent to the building. Because of dry conditions, the bush caught on fire, which then spread to a nearby car. The car ignited and the wind carried the flames to the building, damaging it as well.

The RVCFD had the fire under control within an hour. No one was injured.
