Glynn: The top concern for our village has always been and must always be the public safety of our residents, and therefore our village continues to benefit greatly from having its own police department. I may be biased in that I come from a long lineage of police officers, but the benefit in the peace of mind of knowing that you always have a police presence in the village is huge! In order to assist our police department, since last summer the Village Board has proposed and is seeing implemented under the direction of the RVCPD, a Neighborhood Block Watch program, of which I have signed up as a Block Captain. This program allows the Block Captains to act as further eyes and ears for our police department in our residential neighborhoods, so that they can be notified immediately to any suspicious activity. More information on the Neighborhood Watch program is available online at http://www.rockvillecentrepolice.us/Neighborhood_Watch.html

Grillo: I think our police department is an exceptional group of officers, which is well maintained and administered. I believe our community derives a great deal of satisfaction and security from knowing that our officers are on patrol at all hours and responsive to all calls and concerns of our residents. I would seek to maintain open communication with our police commissioner and our department, who are receptive not only to community concerns but also communication from our board members. While additional staffing is costly, I would attempt to provide our department with proper funding to ensure continued service. I would also seek to expand our neighborhood block watches, to assist our department in securing our village.

Wieman: I think we benefit from having a speedier response than you might get from the Nassau County Police Department. I’d like to see the police force enforce more traffic rules, for example hands free cell phone use, would make our streets safer for other drivers and pedestrians. The answer may be to give the code enforcement officers authority to issue moving violation tickets and not just parking tickets.
