Andrew J. Peters, M.D., a longtime Rockville Centre resident, with his wife by his side, died peacefully in his home in University Park, Fla. on Friday, July 18. He was 80.

A devoted doctor of internal medicine, Peters spent 40 years administering to his patients and their families at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre. He served in many professional positions throughout his career, including president of the National Federation of Catholic Physicians’ Guilds and the Nassau County Society of Internal Medicine. He received the Teddy Roosevelt Award from the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council in 2002.

Peters loved sailing and traveling with his late wife, Frances, to whom he was married for 50 years, as well as spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Patty Peters-Loaiza; his children Andrew J. Peters, Jr., Lisa O’Brien, Marguerite Offenhauser and Kathryn Peters; his grandchildren Andrew, Sean and Ethan Peters, Emma, Terence and Peter O’Brien, and George, Megan, Maddy and Charles Offenhauser; sisters Phyllis, Judy and Joann; and brothers John, Peter and Mike.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, from 7-9 p.m. at Macken Mortuary, 52 Clinton Avenue, Rockville Centre. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 1, at 10 a.m. St. Agnes Cathedral.
