Please donate used K-Cups

To the Editor:

We, the Grade 6 students of the Jewish Experience at Central Synagogue, are collecting used K-Cups for our Gimilut Chassadim project.

Gimilut Chassadim are acts of loving kindness. We voted and decided that our act of loving kindness would be “Bal Tas’chit,” preserving the earth.

K-Cups are quick, convenient, manageable and an easy way to make a tasty cup of coffee. But they are extremely wasteful. They are made with plastic, and there are 200 million being thrown away yearly.

Plastic doesn’t decompose, so our environment is being polluted. Clearly, K-Cups are doing a lot of damage to our world.

Our solution to this problem is to collect the cups and use them to make unique items, because we can make people aware of what they can do to the environment.

So we would love it if you would bring your used, unclean K-Cups to the sixth grade class’s giant yellow box, or to the office of the synagogue, at 430 DeMott Ave. We will clean them and use the coffee grinds as compost. Please drop off your used cups as soon as possible.
