A scramble for Easter eggs in Rockville Centre

Despite decidedly un-Spring-like weather, hundreds of local children turned out for Rockville Centre’s annual Easter Egg Hunt last Saturday morning at Veteran’s Park, adjacent to the Recreation Center. But in spite of the damp, brisk breeze, the turnout was still quite respectable, said Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tony Brunetta.

Brunetta estimated the number of egg-hunters to be between 250 and 300. Two separate age groups participated in the event: toddlers who were one and under and children between the age of two and four. In total, 3,000 eggs were hidden, and children who discovered one of the 65 numbered eggs received an Easter basket prize to go along with the other goodies everyone collected from the hunt.

“We’ve had better years,” said Brunetta, who had hoped for a sunnier day. “But it was still a lot of fun for the kids.”
