A tree grows at Wilson

Posted

In a ceremony to mark Earth Day last week, three kindergarten classes at Wilson Elementary School gathered on the front lawn to "adopt" a new tree. This tree was a gift from the Cornell Cooperative Extension's Greening of Nassau Program. Wilson had recently lost a beautiful flowering tree during the March storm. The new tree, a Japanese Zelkova, was planted in the same spot as the tree that fell. The kindergartners and their teachers stood near the new tree, as the students promised to love and care for it during their next five years at Wilson.
