AvalonBay files restraining order

AvalonBay filed a temporary restraining order last week against a number of construction unions, saying that their members threw rocks during a large, angry rally at its Rockville Centre construction site on March 30.

On that day, village police estimated that approximately 350 demonstrators came to the 80-100 Banks Ave. site. Officers said that rocks were thrown, and one caused damage to a security booth window that was valued at $100.

Police said other demonstrators threw bottles during the rally, which became so unruly that village officers were forced to call for additional assistance from the Nassau County Police Department.

AvalonBay filed its restraining order against 14 construction unions included in the Nassau/Suffolk Building Trades Council in Nassau County Supreme Court.
