Blackout fix will necessitate wider outage

A blackout on South Park Avenue and Lenox Road will throw that area of the village into darkness even longer as emergency repair crews will need to shut off power all night to fix the damage.

Equipment failure caused the immediate blackout early Tuesday afternoon. But to replace the damaged equipment, crews will have to turn out power in the area.

The main area affected will be South Park Avenue, from Lincoln Avenue to Merrick Road. Power will be out in that area from 3 p.m. this afternoon until 5 a.m. tomorrow.

Lenox Road will also be affected, with brief power outages for about 15 to 30 minutes as crews begin and finish the work. The same applies to a small section of Sunrise Highway between Morris Avenue and Park Avenue.
