Break-in at Walbaums in Rockville Centre

In a daring plan, would-be burglars cut a hole in the roof of the Waldbaums supermarket at 399 Ocean Ave. sometime between Dec. 31 at 11 p.m. and Jan. 1 at 2:30 a.m. — and entered the store.

But according to Nassau County detectives, the would-be burglars were unsuccessful in their attempt to pry open two safes in the store’s offices, and left without taking anything.

Police said the attempted burglary was discovered by the supermarket’s manager when he came to work early on New Year’s Day.
