Car crashes into Monaghan’s Restaurant

A car slammed into the front of Monaghan’s Restaurant on Oct. 13, damaging the front of the building but injuring no one.

In the evening, a car was making a turn onto North Village Avenue, where the restaurant is located. According to witnesses, the driver accidentally hit the gas instead of the break and his car lurched forward. He swerved to avoid the car in front of him, jumped the curb and hit the restaurant.

Monaghan’s owner Niall Gunn was sitting in his own car across the street, having just returned from Maple Pointe Assisted Living’s “Eat a Wing, Save a Breast” competition and fundraiser, and saw the whole thing happen.

According to Gunn, most of the patrons in the restaurant were sitting at the bar watching the Mets game, which is why no one was seated at the window, and also why no one was hurt.

“About 10 minutes before hand, I had a family sitting [at that window seat] for an hour,” Gunn said. “So it could have been worse.”
