Nassau County Police Department's arson bomb squad arrested John Courtien, 57, of Florence Avenue in Freeport, on allegations connected with a car fire that occurred early Tuesday morning in Rockville Centre.

According to detectives, a 45-year-old female and a 56-year-old male were asleep in the second-floor bedroom of a North Forest Avenue home when they heard a loud noise. The two individuals looked out the window to see that both of their vehicles, a 2018 Porsche and a 2014 Dodge, were engulfed in flames.

Both victims exited the house to find that an unknown person had set the front door on fire. Upon arrival, officers with the Rockville Centre Police Department conducted a thorough investigation, and with the help of the Freeport Police Department, located the suspect at the intersection of Guy Lombardo Avenue and Polk Street in Freeport, who was placed under arrest at the scene.

Authorities said no injuries were reported as a result of the fires.

Courtien has subsequently been charged with three counts of arson and four counts of reckless endangerment. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
