Detectives hope arrests this morning will end rash of burglaries in the village

Rockville Centre and Nassau County police are hoping to connect two teens arrested early this morning to a rash of burglaries of occupied homes that have plagued the village, frightening residents, throughout the month of November.

According to police officials, the 16 and a 19-year old youths from Jamaica, Queens were being questioned by Nassau County First Precinct detectives and had already been charged with possession of burglars tools, assault of a police officer and resisting arrest. Detectives said one of the teens is the subject of an active warrant.

The first suspect was caught by Rockville Centre plainclothes officers in the back yard of a home at Hempstead and Locust avenues at 4:48 a.m. on Nov. 30. Officers said they found burglar tools in the yard at that time. The other suspect took off on foot and was taken into custody about two hours later, police said, after officers with dogs captured him in the back yard of a Lakeview Avenue home near Milford Place.

A police department spokesman said that the investigation is ongoing.
