Last week, the Rockville Centre Education Foundation donated nearly $50,000 to the school district to fund grants to expand programs for students.

The Education Foundation has been raising money for the district since it was established in 1991. Its mission is to support the Board of Education, the school district, the teachers and the staff and the programs provided by the curriculum.

Teachers are able to apply for the grants to expand current programs and create new ones. Grants during the 2012-13 school year were used to bring authors to elementary schools to do programs with the children, bring in artists in residence and more.

The majority of the money raised came from the Education Foundation Gala, which was held at Molloy College’s new Madison Theater on April 20.

Due to the success of the gala, and contributions that came in at other times during the year, the Education Foundation was able to donate $47,380.84 to the district.
