Summertime is the most popular season families tend to go on vacations. Kids are out of school, the weather is warm, and it’s the peak time for travel for many tourists.
However, it’s also the most expensive. Flight costs tend to skyrocket during the summer months due to the high demand.
With this in mind, travel agent Keith Voets of Magical Dad Vacations said proper planning is crucial when traveling in the summer.
Both of these offers include a stay at three to four star quality hotels. All the guests have to worry about is the taxes and any additional service fees, but they are saving a lot of money in the long run, Voets said.
Cruise lines are also always offering specials, especially for seniors and members of the military. Royal Caribbean Cruises allows kids to sail for free on many of their cruises.
Voets is currently hooking up clients with a five-night Eastern Caribbean Cruise deal on the Carnival Freedom in February 2024. This includes different amenities, a special rate, an up to $100 onboard credit and stateroom upgrade.
Other cruise specials Voets is running right now include an Alaskan Cruise in August 2024 and a Mediterranean Cruise in September 2024.
Voets added he is happy to work with clients on financing plans if they want the option to pay for a vacation over a specific time period.
There’s no waiting when working with a travel agent
The beauty of working with a travel agent is they vet and personalize everything to fit a clients’ specific needs.
Voets said he is able to find bargains that work best for the type of vacation a client is looking to plan.
For those looking to visit Disney, for example, Voets suggests making preparations early because you never know what deals might pop up. If there’s a promotion or a discount available closer to a person’s stay, Voets can book it even if it wasn’t in their original vacation plan.
“(Travel agents) should be watching out for you,” Voets said. “We do oftentimes have the ability to change your rate and take advantage of whatever (the resort, cruise ship, etc.) is offering.”
Avoid third-party travel sites
Sometimes booking deals on discount travel websites can be deceiving, Voets said. There are often hidden resort fees and certain regulations that travel agents don’t operate under.
Booking flights through third-party sites is also risky because cancellations can happen last minute — and potentially no refund.
“We can be an advocate for you when necessary,” Voets said. “With those discount websites, you have to read the fine print.”
