Making a positive difference in Rockville Centre

Posted

Members of Hewitt Elementary School’s Student Council worked hard during the month of December to collect toys for needy children through the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program. Under the direction of special education teacher Rachel Vyskocil and music teacher Melissa DeLaVega, the students had the honor of presenting more than 100 toys to Sgt. Randy Brown and Sgt. Bryan Stovall Jr., both stationed in Garden City, for distribution to deserving youngsters. This is just one example of how student council representatives work together to make a positive difference in the world around them. Initiated by Major Bill Hendricks in 1947, the Marines have distributed toys to more than four hundred million children through their Toys for Tots program during each holiday season.
