An unidentified man was shot on North Centre Avenue and Maine Avenue in Rockville Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a witness at the nearby Rockville Nursing Centre, a man and a woman were being chased down the street by a second man when the first man collapsed. Police received the call for the shooting at 2:14 p.m.

The Rockville Centre Police Department identified the victim as a 22-year-old man, but did not give out his name. Village spokesperson Jeff Kluewer said the gunshot wound was not life-threatening and that the man was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital for treatment.

As of press time, the suspect had not been captured and a police helicopter was circling the area. The site of the shooting is just a block away from the Rockville Centre Public Library and just a few hundred feet from Old Mill Court, the site of many shootings and much gang-related activity in Rockville Centre over the years.
