Residents of Maple Point Assisted Living, 260 Maple Avenue, has raised over $1,100 for the Maurer Foundation, a Mineola-based non-profit organization specializing in breast health education.

During the entire month of July, Maple Pointe held bake sales every Thursday and Friday, regular raffles with gift baskets as prizes and sold pink bracelets, baseball caps and visors.

“Our entire community was involved in raising money,” said Tammy Marshall, executive director of Maple Pointe.

A check for the largest portion of the funds was presented recently to Maurer Foundation Program Manager Safiya Kampbell and Helen Galarza, its program educator.  The check was presented by Maple Pointe resident Ruth Klein, whose Red Hat Ladies Club ran the weekly bake sales. The fundraiser was part of a year-long campaign by Maple Pointe’s parent company, Chelsea Senior Living, to raise money and awareness for various organizations that benefit women.
