Orlando concert cancelled

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano today announced that the Tony Orlando Concert for this Wednesday, Sept. 8 has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for the 2011 summer season. Orlando was originally scheduled to perform Friday, Sept. 3 but was postponed due to Hurricane Earl.

"Our parks department is working on rescheduling the concert," said Mangano. "We thank all those who participated in our international nights and summer concert series."

Over the summer, the park hosted several headline concerts,  including K.C. and the Sunshine Band and the Fresh in the Park festival with Five for Fighting and KT Tunstall. The well-attended events were funded via sponsorships, nonprofit support
and hotel-motel tax proceeds, the county said. Together, the funds allowed the County to provide free entertainment in the parks system.
