On Tuesday night, the Rockville Centre Board of Trustees promoted Police Officer John Beatty to the rank of sergeant.

Beatty has been with the Rockville Centre Police Department since March of 2002. He came to the RVCPD from the NYPD, which he joined in 1998.

The son of John and Barbara, Beatty grew up in Valley Stream and graduated from Valley Stream Central High School in 1994. From there, he went to Nassau Community College and graduated with a degree in criminal justice in 1996.

In the NYPD, Beatty was assigned to the Brooklyn North Taskforce. In September of 2001, he was transferred to the Chief of the Department, where he worked assisting in the recovery of the 9/11 attacks.

“John has a tremendous amount of personal skill,” said Police Commissioner Charles Gennario. He’s really become an outstanding patrol officer, and we’re really excited about his prospects with becoming a supervisor. I’m sure he’ll do a great job.
