Rockville Centre board takes action

Mayor and trustees approve bond for new village projects

Rockville Centre's board of trustees were busy at the Nov. 22 monthly meeting, when members approved nine community projects, with all but one passing unanimously.

During the exterior design review portion of the meeting, trustees unanimously approved the proposed construction of a terrace above Kasey's Kitchen & Cocktails on N. Park Avenue. Kasey's will expand to include the terrace for use during the spring, summer and fall months.

The terrace is expected to be ready in March, and certain strict provisions will apply to its use. Only plastic and paper cups, utensils and plates will be used for the upstairs area. From midnight to 9 a.m., there will be no music playing from the terrace. In addition, the terrace will not be made available for guests or patrons between the hours of 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. In addition – and perhaps most noteworthy – no one under the age of 25 will be admitted on the terrace unless that person is a guest of a party. The terrace is expected to only be open for operation during the nine-month period that stretches from March 15 to Dec. 15.

Bob Williams, former village justice and attorney for the two principal owners of Kasey's, said he was pleased with Monday night's unanimous board vote to approve the terrace. “I’m sure it’ll be a welcome addition,” he told the trustees.

The board also approved eight capital projects as part of a new 40-year bond resolution for $2 million. All but one of the projects were approved unamimously — Trustee Kevin Glynn voted against the measure to fund the new accounting and data collection software for the village.

The village plans to use the money from the bond to finance the following projects:

Reconstruction of the water tank by Molloy College

Electrical system upgrades

Road pavement resurfacing and drainage

Accounting and data collection software

Reconstruction of basketball courts near Centennial Park

Purchase of a fire-police vehicle

Purchase of two vehicles for the Department of Public Works

Additional funding for fuel tanks and environmental remediation on Sunrise Highway.
