Rockville Centre’s vibrant Jewish community gathered together alongside esteemed rabbis and village dignitaries on Thursday night for the second annual menorah lighting ceremony at the Village Green on Maple Avenue.

Mayor Francis Murray, Deputy Mayor Kathy Baxley, and Trustees Gregory Shaughnessy, Emilio Grillo and Katie Conlon joined Rabbi David Lerner and Cantor Alexandra Weiser of Congregation B’nai Sholom-Beth David, Rabbi Michael Cohen of Central Synagogue Beth Emeth, Rabbi Levi Gurkov with the Chabad of Rockville Centre, and several neighbors to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah.

Following the ceremony, Rabbi Lerner extended a warm invitation to all to join him back at the temple on Hempstead Avenue, where the celebration continued. The festivities unfolded with a delectable dinner courtesy of Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen, featuring a spread of sandwiches, a latke bar and irresistible donuts. The celebration continued into the night with raffles, an ugly sweater contest and dancing.

This gathering transcended into a cherished memory that both children and parents could enjoy, while solidifying the enduring bond between the synagogue and the broader community. The celebration not only illuminated the night for the start of the Hanukkah holiday, but it also underscored the spirit and unity of Rockville Centre.
