South Side High School’s New York State Class A girls’ soccer champions took back-to-back bows last week. The Lady Cyclones received congratulations at both the village board meeting on Dec. 12 and the Board of Education meeting on the next night.

At the village meeting, Mayor Francis Murray honored the team and recognized its victories at the conference level, Nassau County and Long Island Regional divisions, and the New York State Class A Championship. This year’s state championship is the sixth title for the Cyclones in the past eight years and is the team’s 16th overall. Deputy Mayor Nancy Howard read the names of the players and presented each of them with a certificate.

“I’d like to join with family, friends and fans in congratulating you on your remarkable effort and stirring success,” Murray said. “You’re a great tribute to our community. Thank you so much.”
