Rockville Centre crime watch - 11-19

People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrests

Yolanda Cash, 58, of Lefferts Avenue, Brooklyn; Lydia Valmon, 54, of E. 54th Street, Brooklyn; Melinda Brown, 58, of Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn and Petrona Prescott, 44, of Hendrix Street, Brooklyn were arrested on Nov. 7 at 6:15 p.m. and charged with petit larceny. According to police, all four women were arrested after they were observed by security personnel in the HomeGoods store, 150 N. Village Ave. acting together to hide numerous items of linen, food and stationery products, with a total value of $277.62 in their pocketbooks, and then exited the store without paying for the items.

Robbery

At 8:50 a.m. on Nov. 8, a man told police that on Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m., while he was walking on Old Mill Court, after leaving work at the Rockville Centre Housing Authority, he was approached on the street by a man approximately 35-years-old who demanded money from him. The suspect took his wallet, which contained $5 in cash from his pants pocket, and then walked away.

Burglaries

On Nov. 5 at 6:15 a.m. a resident of Linden Street reported to police that between Nov. 4 at 11 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 6 a.m., someone had entered his home through a side door, which was found open by the homeowner, and stole approximately $100 in cash from a wallet inside the house.

At about 6:45 a.m. that same morning, a Burtis Avenue resident told police that someone had entered his home through an unlocked rear window, and stole a credit card and $90 in cash from a wallet that was left on a kitchen counter.

Later that same day — Nov. 5 — another Linden Street homeowner reported to police that someone had attempted to get into his home by prying at a rear door and two windows where the homeowner discovered pry marks. A window screen was also cut, but no entry was gained into the house.
