Hoops 4 Hope Basketball Tourney

The 2nd annual Hoops 4 Hope Charity 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament is back on Aug. 14 with more players, prizes and money to be raised. After donating more than $3,000 toward H4H (www.hoopsafrica.org), expectations for this year are even higher. H4H is a non-profit organization that raises money to provide kids in Zimbabwe and South Africa with basketball courts, leagues and coaches. Hometown hero, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tony Brunetta, has given the group access to both the upstairs and downstairs gymnasiums at the Rec Center. Organizers are looking for approximately 30 teams. Costs run $25 a player to participate and there can be 3-4 players per team. With an entry, you're guaranteed a H4H T-shirt and a minimum of 3 games. Pizza and drinks will be available for a small fee. Winners will receive trophies and unspoken bragging rights. There will also be a raffle with a bunch of prizes and gift certificates to local eateries. In addition, the snapback hat company SEA will support the event. It will donate 25 percent of the revenue made on each hat toward a non-profit corresponding to the color of the hat. If the event surpasses what it raised last year, SEA will make a Rockville Centre edition snapback. Twenty five percent of the revenue of each RVC hat will go toward the Tim McMullan Scholarship Fund (which raises money for a special needs kid graduating from South Side High School). To sign up for the event or for more information, either FB inbox, e-mail or call: Steve Kane - smk34@duke.edu (516) 376-9338 or Jesse Winter - jesse.winter@cortland.edu (516) 242-5599.

Assemblage Art by JW Seidenberg

His art combines materials that have had more than one purpose, and may be termed collage, mixed media, found art, or assemblage art. As a youngster, the Canarsie dump was a treasure trove for material which the budding artist took home to arrange and assemble into creative works. Both Mom and Dad encouraged his creativity and resourcefulness. Seidenberg attended New York University for undergraduate and post graduate studies, and Washington University Dental School earning his professional degree. Following his service during the Korean conflict, he established a professional dental practice. Fifty years later, and retired from practice, he is again able to pursue his avocation of creating “found” works of art.
