A Rockville Centre police officer was slightly injured after a 29-year-old woman, who had been arrested for allegedly having 19 Oxycodone pills in a car that police said was stolen, attempted to escape from police custody.

Camille Baez, of 1277 Little Neck Ave., Bellmore was arrested on April 25 at 11:20 p.m. after Rockville Centre police responded to a call about a suspicious auto on Atkinson Road. When they arrived, police said a computer check revealed that the vehicle had been stolen the previous day from Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola. According to police, Baez was in the driver’s seat with what appeared to be 19 Oxycodone pills in plain sight on the car’s center console. Police said Baez was unable to provide them with a prescription.

After she was arrested and taken to Rockville Centre police headquarters, Office Evan Siar was injured when Baez allegedly tried to escape as she was being led into the building. He was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital where he was treated for a sprained middle finger on his left hand, and released.

Baez was charged with assault, two counts of grand larceny and escape — all felonies — as well as criminal possession of a controlled substance. Nassau County detectives processed her arrest. She was arraigned on April 26 at First District Court in Hempstead.
