Rockville Centre police made a big narcotics bust early Thursday morning, arresting a pair of Long Island motorists after discovering a large amount of heroin in a car that had been involved in an accident.

According to Police Commissioner Chuck Gennario, officers arrested Rhamel D. Flippen, 27, the car’s owner, and Shara G. Johnson, 25, and confiscated 100 decks of heroin.

Police said the arrests followed an investigation of the accident that took place at Anton’s Car Care Center and Mobil station at 345 Sunrise Highway.

Flippen, of McDonald Avenue, Bellport was arrested at 3:36 a.m. on Nov. 10 and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Johnson, of Carver Boulevard, Bellport was arrested at 3:45 a.m. and charged with second-degree bail jumping, false personation and unlicensed driving.

Johnson, who was injured during the accident, was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital by police and was treated and released.

“This was another fine arrest made by an alert patrol force,” said Gennario in a written statement. “Although I cannot go into detail on how they found the narcotics because of the pending prosecution, the officers and supervisor at the scene did an exemplary job in discovering the drugs.

“This was a large amount of heroin [that] was packaged for sale,” he said. “Through the alertness and initiative of the officers at the scene, a large amount of drugs were kept from [the] streets. Our patrol force continues to perform at a high level with many very good arrests in the last few months. Rockville Centre is fortunate to have the caliber of officers we currently have in our department,” Gennario added.

Flippen and Johnson were arraigned on Nov. 11. Bail for Flippen was set at $40,000 bond or $20,000 cash. He is due back in court on Nov. 21. Johnson pleaded guilty to false personation and unlicensed driving and was sentenced to 15 days in jail.
