Rockville Centre police to scofflaws: pay up!

Rockville Centre’s police commissioner is issuing a warning to people with outstanding parking tickets: pay them now.

Chuck Gennario says his department is working with the Village Court to come up with a better procedure for impounding scofflaw vehicles, and that his officers will aggressively impound them within the next few weeks.

“There are people out there with $12,000 in parking fines,” Gennario said. “It is unfair to the law abiding, conscientious citizens who pay their fines.”

Gennario advises owners of vehicles with outstanding tickets to visit the village website, www.rvcny.us to find out how many tickets they have. They should then contact the court and make arrangements to pay the fines. It may be possible to negotiate, he said. But once police impound a vehicle, its owner will have to pay the full amount they owe as well as an additional $250 in towing costs.
