Rockville Centre Youth Council hosts night at the lanes; seeks volunteers for event next month

The night started at 10 p.m. on a cold Friday in October. Pop hits of the eighties were blasting through the speakers and their music videos were projected over the bowling lanes. It was the Youth Council’s eighties-themed bowling night, and they could not have asked for more of a success. Students poured in throughout the night, some even in costume. For $8, they treated themselves to an especially fun escape from the cold.

The teens were in for a fantastic night of music, desserts, and of course, bowling. As the most familiar Michael Jackson songs rang throughout the colorfully lighted alley, students could be seen dancing or singing along. Everybody had a good laugh at the mostly gutterballs, and cheered for the occasional strike. It was a good time for all. The Youth Council issued a huge thank you to the sponsors of the night: Furey, Kerley, Walsh, Matera, and Cinquemanni, P.C., Nick’s Pizza, Rockville Centre Lions Club and the Kildunne family.

The next scheduled event is an afternoon of Gaga Ball, a form of dodgeball played in an octagon or hexagon pit, on Dec. 3 at the Recreation Center from 1-3 p.m. The object is to hit, or slap, the ball (not throw it) into another player’s leg at the knee or below.

Contact Matt Connolly at jetsrule12@yahoo.com to get involved and help plan the event. We hope to build the set. Contact Mike Caffrey at mcaffrey15@verizon.net to help with the construction and/or if you can donate any of the lumber (boards or plywood).
