Rockville Centre's Hewitt school students think outside the box

This year’s Visitors’ Day at Hewitt Elementary School drew rave reviews. From kindergarten through fifth grade, students impressed their guests with creative examples of how they are encouraged in class to think outside the box — this year’s theme inspired by Hewitt’s art teacher, Karen Kaufman-Grunfeld. In addition to classroom visits, the day featured displays of student work — if you wanted to see hurricane demonstrations, travel with Flat Stanley, or explore the world of butterflies — Hewitt was the place to be. Visitors were also treated to musical performances, art exhibits and a Scholastic Book Fair, sponsored by Hewitt’s PTA. Pictured above, visitors watch as Jackie Raimondi’s fourth grade students demonstrate how they use scientific reasoning to solve crimes in their Mystery Matter science unit.
