Rockville Centre resident Jane McCabe was recognized last week as a 2019 Woman of Distinction by State Sen. Todd Kaminsky during a ceremony at the State Capitol in Albany.

“Through her work at Bethany House, Jane McCabe has touched the lives of countless neighbors, empowering them through at their darkest moments,” Kaminsky said in a statement. “I was pleased to honor her as my ‘Woman of Distinction’ in recognition of all she has done for this vital organization and our community at-large.”

McCabe serves as co-chair of the Resource Development Committee at Bethany House, a shelter for battered or homeless women and their children fleeing abusive situations. Her fundraising efforts have left a lasting impact on the lives of the many people who have come to the organization in need of assistance.

An advocate for women and children, McCabe, who was previously in the editing and publishing industry, has worked in fundraising for the past eight years. Through Bethany House’s volunteer programs, she helps coordinate annual drives, collecting toys, children’s books, diapers, clothes, coats and other necessities. She partners with local schools, libraries, small businesses and other organizations to collect donations and spread the word about Bethany House. Items collected benefit their five residences, which are located in Baldwin, Roosevelt, and Bellmore.

Residing in the village, McCabe and her husband, Thomas, have called the South Shore home for more than 30 years. They have two children, Katherine and Thomas.

McCabe’s biography and photo will be on display as part of a special exhibit in the State Capitol Complex to honor her and other “Women of Distinction” from across New York.
