Thanks and a promise after

deli fire

The following is an open letter to the Rockville Centre community from the owners of E&W Deli.

Dear friends and neighbors:

It is with sincere hearts that we express our gratitude for your support during this difficult time. Words are incapable of fully expressing our appreciation. We are thankful for the unwavering support and prayers. We are blessed to live in such a wonderful community as Rockville Centre and are forever grateful. Thank you to the fire and police departments, whose efforts were remarkable and came without injury and with minimal damage to the surrounding area. We also want to thank Mayor Fran Murray, a loyal customer whom we are thankful to call a true friend.

We would also like to thank the following families, truly amazing friends who have been there for us each step of the way: Nancy and Mike Gough, Tommy and Paulette McLaughlin, Lori and Mark Ahern, Lisa and Tony Gerrato, Nancy and Dave Howard, Ellen and Billy Cameron, Dona and Rich Brown, Mary and Otto DeFuria and Cathy and Cedo Mara.

Lastly, to the young men and women of Rockville Centre, many of whom have worked behind our counter, walked the halls with our children at South Side High School, played a sport with our sons or proudly worn an E&W Greystone Deli Basketball League T-shirt, we are blessed to have you in our lives. You have shown our entire family such kindness and compassion, and we will never forget your loyalty.

We hope to thank everyone in person when the doors of E&W Greystone Deli, better than ever, reopen!

Will and Jackie Waxon

To the Editor:

When I first read in the Herald that Mayor Fran Murray said that his administration would seek corporate sponsorships for the village entrances — on the eastern and western approaches on Sunrise Highway and at the Peninsula Boulevard entrance from the Southern State Parkway (“What’s on his agenda?” Aug. 4-10) — I was tempted to write a letter decrying this as one of the more inane ideas that I have heard.
